10 River and 84 Main

After I moved to Peterborough in June 2001, I lived in the 2nd floor apartment before my purchase of the house was completed on August 1, 2001. I was so excited I couldn't sleep at night, listening to the water roar outside all 15 sunroom windows which I opened wide to the summer air. My work at the Peterborough Town Library at the junction of Main Street and Concord Street (Route 202) was a mere 1/4 mi. walk downhill. I purchased the carriage house attached (10 River) to the right of the building (from the Main Street entrance) and to the left of the building on River Street in the summer of 2002. In the summer of 2005 I sold the entire property - all four levels and carriage house. In January 2005 I had moved to Massachusetts to become director of the Bellingham Public Library and had purchased an 1890 Victorian in Franklin, MA. Ironically, I was moving from the first public library in the world supported by taxation (Peterborough) ... to the first public library in the United States (Franklin.) Or so they claim. I'll always love that house on the Bell Factory falls in one of the most picturesque towns in the country.
